Seven years ago…

Seraphina cursed herself, muttering curse after curse at her own silly mistake.

She had just returned to her dorm after meeting a wonderful man who had promised to accompany her to the bookstore he frequents. Scrolling through her phone, she was reminded of her grave error–she had forgotten to ask for his phone number.

She sighed at her misfortune, how could she forget such an important detail? Perhaps she was too engrossed in her excitement that she forgot about it. She brushed through her ebony strands in frustration. How could she reach Zayne now?

After some consideration she decided to visit the library the next day, hoping she’d catch a glimpse of Zayne; sitting there basking underneath the soft light of the sun shining through the grand window, licking his fingertip to turn another page.

Sadly for Seraphina, the man was nowhere to be found.

Seraphina drowned herself with piles and piles of books that almost rivaled her height, hoping that he would come around eventually. She has been visiting the library for days now but to no avail.

She understood that Zayne might’ve been busy, she suspected as much if her deduction was correct; that he was a medical student, but still–she grasped that slither of possibility that he might come back, it was the biggest library in the city after all.

This was Seraphina’s ninth day in a row visiting, it wasn’t like she counted the days she visited. She was reminded by the librarian who greeted her with a kind smile. “This is your ninth day in a row, sweetie. Have you found the person you are looking for?” she asked.

“Not yet, but I’m not planning to back down just yet. Perhaps lady luck would spare a glance at me,” Seraphina chuckled, hoping her words would ring true.

“I have a feeling you’ll meet him today, sweetie,” the kind woman assured Seraphina, somehow the warmth of her words consoled Seraphina’s anxious mind, perhaps today is the day she’ll meet Zayne again.

Seraphina chuckled. “I sure hope so,” she nodded before walking deeper into the boundless collections. Her footsteps brought her towards an aisle that was filled with books foreign to her. Her finger lingered on each spine, tracing the indents of every book.

Seraphina smiled to herself, her eyes noticing one of the titles Zayne had read days before. It seemed that she was in the aisle he was a frequent to. Maybe today was the day she’d meet him again, she cast her eyes back at the shelf, and then there it was a familiar shade of hazel green she had yearned to meet.

It was him, she was sure of it.
